How to shoot your comp card at home

A comp card (or composite) is the one page a casting looks at first: a main portrait, a few varied shots and your key details. You do not need a photographer to make a solid first version.

What a comp card needs

• A clean head-and-shoulders portrait.
• A full-length shot.
• One or two varied looks: a profile, a natural expression, a different outfit.
• Your name, measurements and location.

Light: the window is your studio

Face a large window in daylight, no direct sun. You want soft, even light on your face. Turn slowly until the shadows are gentle. Avoid overhead room lights, they flatten features and yellow the skin.

Background and framing

Plain wall, no clutter. Phone at chest height for portraits, eye level for full length. Leave a little space around you. Keep it straight, keep it simple.

Honesty over editing

Do not slim, smooth or reshape. A casting needs to trust that the photo matches the person. AI-generated or heavily edited images are rejected on the professional standard. Real proportions, honestly shown, win.
